This time I am going to write about the photograph on the resume and its importance. Actually, it is one of the basic must haves when preparing a resume.

Why is a photograph important?

The people from the Human Resource department will look at your picture and judge about your outer impression on the basis of your facial expression, posture, hairstyle and clothes (for women also make-up).
Of course they are not going to decide according to your picture if they are going to invite you to a job interview or not. Nevertheless, if your outer impression is bad your evaluation might get worse, even more if you are applying for a position where you need to be in contact with costumers face-to-face.

Also, in order to recall the students face many companies use the resume picture to do so. Considering such conditions the picture evaluation is quite important.

Now, how and where should you take a picture? In general, there are 3 options.

• Taking it by yourself
• Instant picture machine
• Photo studio

The best choice is to have a photograph taken at a photo studio.

Why to take a resume picture at a photo studio

1. They will be able to give you advice about your posture
2. They will help you with your hair styling and make-up according to job hunting standards
3. They use a professional camera and therefore the pictures will have very high quality
4. They are able to do picture editing

4 things to consider when using a photo studio

1. 1. Bring a suit without wrinkles and a freshly ironed shirt to the photo shoot.
      No matter how much of a professional, the photographer can’t make wrinkles on your suit or shirt disappear.
   2. Just in case needed, bring your own hair styling necessities with you.
   3. If possible, choose a photo studio which has a “job hunting course”.
      Most likely it will not only be cheaper but most places offer a job hunting standard hair styling and make-up included in the price.

※if they do not have a “job hunting course” make sure to tell them the purpose of the shoot when making the reservation. Especially for women, it’s a good idea to ask if they provide hair styling for job hunting photographs. Since also the make-up is very different from your usual one let them advise you or even do it on your behalf.

1. 4. Make sure to get the photograph data!It might cost you a little bit extra but by having the data you will be able to apply online as well as print new photographs in a convenience store when needed.

When should you have the photograph taken?

A photograph in your resume should be a picture that was taken within the last 3 months.

By the way,even if written in the instructions for the application that it should be a picture that was taken within the last 3 months, I don’t think it will be a problem even if it is a picture that was taken within the last 6 months.

However, if your hairstyle or anything else about your outer appearance has greatly changed since the last photograph, it is a good idea to have a new one taken.
